H.E. High Commissioner Nor’ Azam Mohd Idrus (“TYT”) attended an online briefing session for Heads of Malaysian Missions titled Halal Diplomacy: Malaysia’s Halal Industry Driving the World Economy on 20 February 2024. In an effort to steer halal diplomacy in promoting and spreading the halal Malaysia brand to the international arena, Wisma Putra collaborated with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI); Jabatan Agama Islam Malaysia (JAKIM); and Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) to host that online briefing. Over and above the overview of Malaysia’s halal industry and an introduction to the halal ecosystem of Malaysia, insights were also provided on the halal certification management in Malaysia. The halal industry in Malaysia is on strong footing with halal exports notably reaching a record high of RM59.46 billion in 2022, marking a substantial increase of RM23.16 billion or 63.8% compared to the previous year. This growth, achieved amidst global economic challenges, underscores the rising global demand for halal products and services, which have significantly contributed to Malaysia's economy.
