NAIM Cendera, the Malaysian company awarded the contract to upgrade Waito-Waitolua section of the Kings Road has credited local contractors for bringing the upgrades to a successful conclusion at the opening of the section on 7 March 2012. The project had employed a total of 370 workers consisting technical staff, supervisor, clerical and site workers. The upgraded road will provide travellers with a smooth ride cause the usage of premix surfacing in place of traditionally favoured chip seal surfacing. The completion of the highway was on time and within the budget of F$23 million in one of the most difficult terrains.
