Ambassador Datin Paduka Halimah Abdullah recently attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Captains Region of the Republic of San Marino. The newly –elected Captains Region of the Republic San Marino are HE Denis Amici and HE Antonella Mularoni. Mdm Mularoni was the former Secretary of State of San Marino. The ceremony was held on 1 April 2013 at the Government’s Palace, San Marino and was attended by the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Ban Ki Moon, Ministers, politicians, Ambassadors and some well- known personalities.
Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in his address during the inauguration ceremony praised the deep rooted democratic system prevailing in the Republic, being the unique system whereby the two captains Regions are elected every six months to be the Head of State of San Marino.
The Ambassador also met Minister of Industry of San Marino, Mr Marco Arzili.
San Marino is situated on the Italian peninsular on the north eastern side with an area of about 61 sq km and a population of about around 300, 000.
