MALAYSIA'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE UNITED NATIONS WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME FOR THE REGIONAL EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE TO LEBANESE AFFECTED BY CONFLICT

Her Excellency Dato' Lily Zachariah, Ambassador of Malaysia to Italy handed over a cheque of USD$ 250,000 to Ms. Valerie Sequeira, Director of Donor Relations Division and Ms. Nehal Hegazy, Donor Relations Officer of the World Food Programme. This is the Government of Malaysia's contribution to the United Nations World Food Programme for the Emergency Operation (EMOP) ' The Regional Emergency Food Assistant to Lebanese Affected by Conflict'.

The Handing over of the cheque was done at the Embassy of Malaysia, Via Nomentana in Rome on 20 October, 2006. Officials of the Embassy and the World Food Programme were present during the brief ceremony.

The Malaysian Government hopes that this contribution would help to alleviate the sufferings of the Lebanese people. Malaysia shares the pain of the Lebanese people and sincerely hopes that greater efforts will be made by the international community to help Lebanon.

After the presentation, Ms. Valerie Sequeira made a courtesy call on Her Excellency the Ambassador where she took the opportunity to debrief the latter about the current status of the EMOP in Lebanon.
