In conjunction with the 62nd Sapporo Snow Festival, Malaysia participated in the 38th International Snow Sculpture Contest which was held in Sapporo City of Hokkaido Prefecture on 3-11 February 2011. Teams of professional artists from around the globe created artworks from ice and snow at venues across the Sapporo City.
The Malaysian delegation was led by His Excellency Datuk Shaharuddin Md Som, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, and our national team created an elaborate ice sculpture piece entitled “Wau Bulan” after the popular traditional game in Malaysia.
During his visit to Sapporo, His Excellency Datuk Shaharuddin Md Som took the opportunity to call on Mr. Fumio Ueda, Mayor of Sapporo and also hosted a dinner for Malaysia’s travel trade partners in Hokkaido who have assisted in the promotion of Malaysia as a tourist destination.
