23 October 2024 – H.E. Noriyuki Shikata, Ambassador-designate of Japan to Malaysia, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan. During the meeting, H.E. Dato’ Shahril congratulated H.E. Shikata on his appointment and reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations with Japan. He added that 2025 will be a significant year for Malaysia, as the country will assume the chairmanship of ASEAN and participate in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
H.E. Shikata expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted Japan's eagerness to deepen cooperation with Malaysia across various sectors, including trade, investment, and technology. He emphasized Japan's interest in collaborating on initiatives related to sustainable development and innovation. Both ambassadors acknowledged the strong historical ties between their nations, particularly under the Look East Policy and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between the two countries.
