Presentation of Sweet Potatoes by H.E. Isao Hayashi, Mayor of Miyoshi Town

6 October 2025 – H.E. Isao Hayashi, Mayor of Miyoshi Town, paid a visit to the Embassy of Malaysia in Japan to deliver a consignment of sweet potatoes as part of Miyoshi Town’s annual gesture of friendship. The Embassy was represented by Mr. Zainal Azlan Mohd Nadzir, Deputy Chief of Mission.

 

This annual tradition reflects the warm and long-standing relationship between Miyoshi Town and Malaysia, which has been nurtured through various cultural exchanges and people-to-people engagements over the years. Miyoshi Town, located in Saitama Prefecture, has established close ties with the Embassy and Malaysian communities in Japan, particularly through educational, agricultural, and cultural cooperation initiatives.

 

Miyoshi is well known for its high-quality sweet potatoes (satsumaimo), a specialty product of the town celebrated for its natural sweetness and rich flavor. The gesture of presenting sweet potatoes symbolizes friendship, goodwill, and gratitude, as well as the spirit of sharing the town’s agricultural heritage with international partners. The Embassy expressed its sincere appreciation for the thoughtful gesture, which continues to strengthen the bonds of friendship between Malaysia and the people of Miyoshi Town.
