25 July 2023 - H.E. Alexander Salas Araya, Ambassador of Costa Rica to Japan visited the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo to extend a Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) Networking Luncheon. The Ambassador was accompanied by Ms Marianela Piedra, Director of Trade and Investment Promotion Section of the Embassy of Costa Rica in Japan.
During the visit, H.E. Alexander stated that CPTPP is one of the most dynamic trade agreement in which he strongly believes that Costa Rica can contribute positively to CPTPP as a member. Costa Rica submitted its application to join CPTPP on 11 August 2022.
H.E. Mr Alexander recalled his visit to Malaysia in 2006 and was already impressed with the development that took place in the country. Costa Rica which has three missions in the region namely Republic of Korea, Japan and Singapore, according to the Ambassador, wishes to explore and strengthen economic ties with Malaysia.
