WORKING VISIT OF THE HON. TUN DR. MAHATHIR BIN MOHAMAD, PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA, TO JAPAN, 10-12 JUNE 2018

The Hon. Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad undertook a working visit to Japan from 10-12 June 2018 to attend the Nikkei 24th International Conference on the Future of Asia. This was his first visit to Japan since assuming the premiership for the second time on 10 May 2018.

 

On 11 June 2018, the Prime Minister delivered a keynote speech at the Nikkei 24th International Conference entitled “Keeping Asia Open – How to Achieve Prosperity and Stability”, the theme of this year’s Conference.

 

Apart from the interviews by Nikkei’s media companies namely, Nikkei Asian Review, TV Tokyo and BS Japan, the Prime Minister had also participated in a session with the Japanese media held at the Japan National Press Club following the Nikkei Conference.

 

In late afternoon of 11 June 2018, YAB PM received courtesy calls by the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, HE Mr. Truong Hoa Binh and Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, HE Mr. Teo Chee Hean.

 

On 12 June 2018, YAB PM held a dialogue session with leaders of Japanese major economic organisations namely, Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai), Japan Foreign Trade Council Inc. and Japan-Malaysia Economic Association (JAMECA).

 

Later that same day, YAB PM paid a courtesy call on his Japanese counterpart, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, at the latter’s office, which was followed by a Joint Press Announcement by the two leaders.

 

YAB Prime Minister also gave a Special Lecture with a theme “Malaysia-Japan relationship under the new administration of Tun Dr. Mahathir” to members of the Upper and Lower Houses at the Assembly Hall of the Congressional Office Building of the House of Councillors of Japan.
