On 15 April 2025, Ambassador Azri held a meeting with H.E. Dr Amer Bisat, Minister of Economy and Trade of the Republic of Lebanon, at the Minister's office. The discussions centred on enhancing bilateral trade relations and identifying key sectors for collaboration between Malaysia and Lebanon.
2. Ambassador Azri highlighted Malaysia's strategic trade presence in the region, noting the operation of a Trade Office in Jeddah. Plans are underway to organise a trade delegation to Lebanon, aiming to introduce Malaysian business representatives to potential Lebanese partners. H.E. Dr Bisat welcomed this initiative, expressing his readiness to facilitate connections with prominent figures in Lebanon's trade sector.
3. In response to inquiries about priority sectors for Malaysian investment, H.E. Dr Bisat identified two areas of significant interest:
i. Energy Sector: Emphasis on power generation projects, including the development of hydroelectric dams, to address Lebanon's energy needs.
ii. Construction Sector: Opportunities arising from post-conflict reconstruction efforts, supported by international funding, present a substantial market for construction-related ventures.
4. Furthermore, H.E. Dr Bisat proposed the establishment of a Malaysian-Lebanese Chamber of Commerce. This entity would serve as a bridge for Lebanese companies seeking access to the Malaysian market. He also suggested exploring the export of niche Lebanese products, particularly in the food sector, to Malaysia.
