General Datuk Haji Mohd Nizam bin Haji Jaffar, Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysia, arrived in Beirut, Lebanon, for a Official Visit from 2 to 6 April 2025. He was accompanied by Datuk Lokman Hakim bin Ali, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence Malaysia, and Lt Gen. Dato’ Zahani Zainal Abidin RMAF, Malaysian Joint Force Commander.
2. During his visit, General Mohd Nizam engaged with Ambassador Azri at the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut. Their discussions covered key areas of mutual interest, including the future direction of UNIFIL’s presence in southern Lebanon. Ambassador Azri provided an update on the formation of the new government following the election of a new President in January 2025 and its implications for regional stability.
3. After the meeting, the delegation toured the embassy and met with Home-Based and Locally Recruited Staff. The delegation is scheduled to visit MALBATT 850-12 personnel at Marakah Camp, who are part of Malaysia’s peacekeeping mission under UNIFIL.
