The Embassy of Malaysia in Beirut, Lebanon organized a reception in conjunction with the anniversary of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Wednesday, 11 June 2008 at Movenpick Hotel & Resort, Beirut.
The reception was held from 8.30 to 11.00 p.m. and was the first event of its kind organized by the Embassy since its establishment on 19 September 2005 due to the prevailing security situation in Beirut during the recent years.
In total, the reception recorded a total of 172 attendees. Other than Malaysian citizens residing in Lebanon that include members of the Malaysian peacekeeping contingent (MALCON) currently serving under the UNIFIL banner in southern Lebanon, Lebanese citizens were also present to celebrate the anniversary of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Apart from Lebanese dignitaries/officers from Lebanese ministries and universities, the reception was also attended by members of diplomatic corps, Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) Alumni, Malaysia-Lebanon Business Council as well as media representatives.
The reception was successfully conducted and it provided an avenue for Malaysians residing in Lebanon to get together to celebrate the anniversary of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong. It also gave a great opportunity for Lebanese people to jointly celebrate the occasion and gained some knowledge on Malaysia’s monarchical system. The atmosphere during the reception was cordial and friendly, a reflection of the strong bond between Malaysia and Lebanon.
