51st Malaysia Day in Peru

19 September 2018 1 views

Malaysian community in Peru congregated at the Embassy of Malaysia in Lima, Peru to celebrate its 55 years of the formation of Malaysia which falls on 16 September 2018. This year, the Malaysian community in Peru was joined by 40 visiting Malaysians who were participating the Four-Wheel Drive Trans Andes Expedition 2018. The Malaysian visitors have indeed enlivened the celebration.

The Trans Andes 2018 Expedition, comprised 12 (4x4) vehicles from Malaysia,  started their adventure from Quito, Ecuador before traversing Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and ending in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Off the beaten Inca Trail, and through some of Peru's most spectacular sights that could only be accessed from behind the wheel of a brutish four-wheeled rugged machinery, the participants described this, a unique whirlwind experience that could only be gained in Peru.

Their goodwill expedition has done Malaysia proud in fostering friendship, enriching cultures and promoting understanding between the people of Malaysia and Peru. The celebration of the Malaysia Day at the Embassy has brought all Malaysians together in esprit de corp. They shared with each other their life stories and adventures in South America over some of the famous Malaysian cuisines that reminded them of home, such as Nasi Lemak and Teh Tarik.

The pinnacle of the celebration was the flag-hoisting ceremony accompanied by Malaysia’s national anthem of Negaraku and a simple cake-cutting event. Hidup Malaysia! Viva Malasia!
