On 30 September 2016, the Embassy of Malaysia joined forces with the Embassy of Indonesia and the Royal Thai Embassy to introduce and promote ASEAN as a community to Peruvian students. The ASEAN cultures as well as ASEAN identity were showcase at the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) through exhibitions, cuisine sampling and cultural shows.
The half day event was participated by more than 150 USIL academicians and students. National Anthem of Peru and ASEAN Anthem were aired to mark the official opening of the celebration. The event was officially opened by the President of USIL, Dr. Ramiro Salas while the Ambassador of Indonesia to Peru, His Excellency Moenir Ari Soenanda, as the Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Lima delivered opening remarks. The Ambassador of Malaysia to Peru, His Excellency Chuah Teong Ban gave a comprehensive presentation on the Overview of ASEAN community and how it benefited the region. Highlight was also made on the ¨ASEAN – Pacific Alliance Framework for Cooperation¨ which was recently adopted on 26 September 2016 in New York that would pave the way for more cooperation in future.
The cultural event served as a platform for the three ASEAN Countries to share their traditional cultural music and dance performances such as Malaysian Zapin, Thai Silk and Indonesian Bajidor Kahot and various melody filled the open concord in the compound of USIL. Students of USIL had a great time wetting their palates and pampering their taste buds on the variety of ASEAN and local food.
The ASEAN Committee in Lima, Peru would continue to promote ASEAN in Peru ¿ to strengthen the people-to-people contacts between Peruvian and ASEAN community.
