Malaysian community in Colombia had a social gathering with Ambassador of Malaysia accredited to Colombia with residence in Lima on 19 November 2018. The gathering was organised taking the opportunity of the presence of Ambassador Chuah Teong Ban who was on a familiarisation visit to Bogota. According to the Malaysian Diaspora there, this is the first time they had such a gathering to bond with each others.
About 12 Malaysians and their families attended the function. Most of them are residing in Bogota while some had to travel many hours from others cities or far remote districts to Bogota. A Malaysian had traveled eight-hour from the remote interior of his plantation. Two students undergoing Spanish language course in a university in Medellin, some four hours road journey away.
This outreach programme was most welcomed by most Malaysian Diasporas as it provided them a platform to meet fellow Malaysians and to foster friendship and camaraderie. They took the opportunity to update each other on their life experiences and adventures in South America region. They also tips and tricks on the do’s and dont’s while in Colombia.
Ambassador Chuah Teong Ban had shared with them the new policies adopted by the new government of Pakatan Harapan as well as to clarify the various issues that they have raised. He further advised them to keep close contact among themselves and also to support and assist each others.
