On 12 March 2025, HE Ahmad Irham bin Ikmal Hisham, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Perú, attended the Promotional Presentation of the Chancay Port and the Cosco Shipping logistical services organized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and China Ocean Shipping Company COSCO.
During the programme, HE Ahmad Irham had the opportunity to meet and had a discussion with HE Song Yang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Perú; Mr. Wang Kunhui; President of COSCO Shipping South America; and HE Ambassador Juan Carlos Capuñay, former Peruvian Ambassador to China and Japan.
The Chancay Port, located about 60 kilometers north of Lima, is a significant maritime hub developed as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Operated by Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Perú S.A., it officially opened in November 2024. This port is recognized as South America's first smart and automated port, aiming to enhance Peru's connectivity with international markets, particularly in Asia.
The port has already started making an impact by reducing logistics costs and improving trade efficiency. For instance, it has cut the transportation time of goods between South America and Asia by about 10 days. It also serves as a strategic pivot for shipping and logistics, benefiting industries across Latin America.
