A Bahasa Malaysia class was taught and promoted to a group of selected students at the Colegio Juana Alarco de Dammert, a public women’s college in Miraflores, Lima co-organised by the Embassy of Malaysia in Lima and the Municipality of Lima. This annual programme since 2016 was aimed at promoting knowledge sharing via language workshop and also to briefly introduce the unique cultural identities of Malaysia.
The modality of the language workshop was by means of interactive learning - letting the students to select the areas of interest to focus in learning Bahasa Malaysia. After identifying the area of focus, common and frequently used words and phrases were taught to them. To reinforce their learning experience, a mock dialogue was improvised to let them practice the words learned. They had a swell time speaking and practising Bahasa Malaysia. Learning materials and basic Malay words were printed and distributed to all students to take home.
The Embassy of Malaysia would like to thank the instructor Mrs. Nurul Hidayah, spouse of the Head of Chancery for volunteering to take on the task of teaching Bahasa Malaysia. She also took the opportunity to share with them the various aspects of the multi-ethnicity and multi-religious community in Malaysia. Though the programme is micro in size, it is hoped that this effort would bolster the people-to-people relations between Peruvians and Malaysians in the coming years.
