TYT Duta Besar telah mengadakan lawatan kasih sempena perayaan Deepavali di Penjara Ancon II pada 11.00 pagi 26 Oktober 2011. Turut sama dalam lawatan tersebut ialah Setiausaha Ketiga, selaku pegawai konsular Kedutaan dan juga seorang penterjemah Kedutaan. Perjalanan dengan kereta mengambil masa lebih kurang 1.30 jam.
Ketibaan rombongan Kedutaan telah disambut oleh Encik Jorge Portilla, Timbalan Pengarah Penjara tersebut sebelum dibawa berjumpa Pengarahnya, Encik Cesar Bocanegra. Di pejabatnya, pihak penjara tersebut memaklumkan bahawa penjara berkenaan baru dibina 5 tahun lalu dan pada masa ini mempunyai seramai 1700 orang banduan dan dari jumlah tersebut 500 daripadanya terdiri daripada banduan asing.
Banduan lelaki yang dilawati telah dipenjarakan atas sebab pengedaran dadah dan sedang berusaha untuk mendapatkan “commutation” atau “semi libertad” atas sebab sikap/kelakuan positif beliau.
Semasa pertemuan tersebut, banduan dilihat bersemangat dan lincah menyatakan harapannya agar dapat diberi hukuman yang lebih ringan melalui proses “commutation” atau “semi-libertad” berkenaan. Beliau juga amat terharu dengan lawatan kasih tersebut dan mengucapkan berbanyak terima kasih kepada pihak Kedutaan dan keperhatinan pihak kerajaan.
Duta Besar telah menyerahkan sedikit buah tangan yang berupa makanan ringan, buah-buahan dan bahan kebersihan diri serta sedikit wang saku sempena hari perayaan pesta cahaya ini.
Passionate Visit to Ancon II Prison
In conjunction with Deepavali celebration, The Ambassador with the Third Secretary and an Interpreter of the Embassy had undertook a consular visit to a Malaysian inmate jailed at Ancon II jail, at 11:00 am on 26 October 2011. The journey by road took the Ambassador and his team around one and the half hours to reach the prison.
The Deputy Director of the prison, Mr. Jorge Portilla had received the Ambassador and his team upon arrival at the prison main gate and later proceded to meet the prison Director, Mr. Cesar Bocanegra. According to the Director the prison was newly built, five years ago and currently it has 1700 inmates and from that figures, 500 of them are foreign citizens.
The male Malaysian inmate that the team visited was imprisoned for drug trafficking offences. He is currently making effort to gain access to the “commutation” or “semi libertad” facilities provided under the Peruvian legal system. He made himself avails to that facilities due to his positive attitude and good behaviour.
During the visit, he appeared to be full of spirit and talkative with great hope to obtain the “commutation”. He seemed to be grateful with the Embassy visit and thanked the team members for all their concern.
On behalf of the team, the Ambassador had handed over some goodies and little pocket money to him for him to spend during this auspicious occasion to many Malaysians during this period of year.
