In conjunction with the Hari Raya Eid Fitri celebration 2016, the Embassy of Malaysia in Lima, Peru with the cooperation of Filarmonia Radio Station of Peru aired some Malaysian Hari Raya traditional songs for an hour between 10 am to 11am over 102.7FM channel on 8 July 2016. This the first time that Malaysian traditional Hari Raya music filled the radio broadcasting space of Peru. It was indeed a very proud moment for the Malaysian community in Peru when they heard those Malaysian songs over the radio of Peru.

This international musical programme called International Podium was the brainchild of the radio presenter, Mr. Julio Heredia who was interested to share classical and traditional music of Malaysia to Peruvian listeners. Among the ballads that was aired is the famous Seloka Hari Raya by Uji Rashid, Dari Jauh kupohon Maaf and Selamat Hari Raya from Sudirman, Cahaya AidilFitri and many more.

The inaugural broadcast on 8 July 2016 was the first of a series of radio programmes lined up to expose and showcase Malaysia’s cultural heritage to Peru. The upcoming slots were National Day of Malaysia, 31 August 2016 and then in conjunction with Malaysia Day on 20 September 2016 and the last broadcast would be on 26 November 2016. Mr. Julio Heredia himself would anchor all programmes except the programme on National Day which would be hosted by Ms. Martha Mifflin Danino, the Executive Director herself.

Peruvians were thrilled to hear such traditional festive music from Malaysia, a country half the world away from Peru. The upbeat traditional music of Hari Raya was a refreshing experience epitomising the rich cultural of Malaysia. Peruvians are looking forward to enjoying more Malaysian ballads and melodies in the coming radio programmes.
