On 31st August 2016, the 59th National Day (Hari Kebangsaan) celebration in Lima, Peru was celebrated modestly, without the usual lavish feast of cuisine and beverages. Instead, the celebration was broadcasted nationwide in Peru, filling the airwaves with patriotic Malaysian songs and music for two hours during the morning primetime slot. The Malaysian tunes aired were among others Anak Merdeka, Tanggal 31, Jalur Gemilang, Tanah Pusaka, Cemerlang Gemilang Terbilang and other popular melodies.

In the broadcast, Mr. Chuah Teong Ban, Ambassador of Malaysia to Peru was given the opportunity to make a short speech in Spanish. His speech introduced the significance of the National Day encompassing a brief Malaysian history leading to independence, the progressive achievements made and also the future vision of Malaysia. Ambassador Chuah also seized the occasion to inform the radio listeners that 2016 is the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Peru. Well-wishers in Peru and many friends of Malaysia in Peru have extended warm greetings and congratulatory messages on this auspicious occasion. Cakes and bouquets of flowers were also delivered to the Embassy. The Embassy of Malaysia in Lima would like to put on record our sincere appreciations to all well-wishers and friends of Malaysia.
