Peru is keen to utilise the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) to boost trade with Malaysia. This was the gist of the discussion Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, Ms. Magali Silva Velarde-Alvarez had with Ambassador of Malaysia to Peru, Chuah Teong Ban when the latter paid a courtesy call on her on 1 April 2016.
Malaysia and Peru established diplomatic relations in 1986. The bilateral trade has been developing steadily over the last three decades and the potential for increased trade is more promising now especially after the signing of the TPPA recently. Conducive environment and business friendly trading framework for the promotion of greater economic relationship have been established under the TPPA. Both countries need to encourage their business community and investors to explore the opportunities available on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.
