Peruvian engineers and architects has expressed keen interest to use high damping natural rubber bearings on its high rise buildings for the protection from earthquakes.
Peru is located in a seismic zone of the Pacific Ring of Fires in South America. These rubber bearings designed by Malaysia can be a feasible alternative to cushion the negative effects of earthquake disasters to protect lives and buildings.
A Seminar on High Damping Natural Rubber Bearings was organised by the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC) in Lima on 11 October 2016. Miss Low Yoke Kiew, CEO of MREPC, led a delegation of rubber experts to Peru to showcase and share this technological knowhow to the fraternity of engineers and architects of Peru.
Ambassador of Malaysia to Peru, H.E. Chuah Teong Ban in his opening remark at the seminar highlighted the benefits of using this Malaysian natural rubber innovative products that could save lives as well as to reduce the disastrous impact on buildings, besides at competitive cost. No other countries in the world knows rubber like Malaysia does. He also highlighted that Peru is one of the main importers of Malaysian rubber.
