2011 Chinese New Year Bazaar, Davao City
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, the Davao Chinatown held a one-day Mini-Chinese village at the Davao Chinese School on 2 February 2011. The event features a traditional Chinese village set-up complete with props, costumed people, displays of Chinese goods and delicacies and stalls selling Chinese food. The event was well attended by government officials, businessmen and community members of Davao City as they witnessed the different presentations that signify the Chinese culture.
2. The Consulate General participated in the event. This was the first time ever that the Consulate General participated in such a meaningful celebration for the Chinese community in Davao City. The Perwakilan Ladies prepared the Malaysian food for sale at a very affordable price, among others, Ayam satay, Ayam goreng with Nasi lemak and Kari pap. Those present were delighted to taste the Malaysian food. The Consul General also participated in the Business Forum during the event. Present were Davao City Chinese business people with Hon. Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as Chief Guest. The Consul General briefed the forum about trade and investment opportunities in Malaysia.
3. The celebration has been successful and it was indeed a wonderful experience for the Consulate General. This event showed the continued relationship between Malaysia not only with people of Davao City but also with the Philippines as a whole.
