Consul General Mohammad Azhar Mazlan delivered a speech entitled “Philippines and Malaysia: Partners in Combating Terrorism” as one of the guest speakers at the first-ever Ateneo Diplomatic Corps Convention with the theme “Integration: Bridging Philippines and Asian Neighbours” organized by the International Students of the Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City on 26 November 2011. In attendance were ninety (90) people comprising faculty members, campus leaders and international students and delegates from Xavier University, Liceo de Cagayan University and Ateneo de Davao University.
2. The other speakers present were from the Philippine government agencies of Region XI in Mindanao namely, Ms. Janeth Z. Falsis, Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Ms. Petrona M. Bergamo, Regional Director of the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA), Mr. Leon M. Decanal, Regional Director of National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), a representative from the Japanese Embassy in Manila, Mr. Hiroshi Namakwa, Second Secretary and senior professors from Xavier University. The talks have enabled the Consul General to cultivate the minds of the participants aside from exchanging views particularly with the students, on the essence of bilateral, regional and global cooperation towards a world free from the threat of terrorism.
