The Bulawan Festival was held on Saturday, 8 March, 2014 at Nabunturan, Compostela Valley. The main objective of the event was to showcases the culture of Compostela Valley and celebrate the International Women Day. This event is usually celebrated from 3rd to 8th March which is also the founding anniversary of the province.
The Bulawan Festival was well attended by the general public and basically all the programs and parts of the event were successful. Amongst the Special Guest-of-Honour includes Senator Grace Poe, former Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Consul General of Malaysia Abdullah Zawawi Tahir and wife. The Host, 4th Compostela Valley Governor Arturo T. “Chiongkee” Uy was also supported with the presence of the Vice Governor Zamora and Mayors of Mawab, Maragusan, New Bataan, Nabunturan, Montevista, Monkayo, Compostela, Laak, Mabini, Pantukan and Maco as well as Board Members of Compostela Valley.
There were cultural exhibits and showcases from different tribes which are aimed to encourage unity in cultural diversity in Compostela Valley. The origin of the province’s inhabitants came from the ethnic tribes of the Mansaka, Mandaya, Manobo, Mangguangan, Dibabawon, Aeta, Kamayo, Davaweño and Kalagan.
Today, majority of the inhabitants are migrants from Cebu, Samar, Bohol and other Visayan provinces. The cultural minorities in the province today include the Mansaka, Mandaya, Dibabawon, Mangguangan and Manobo groups such as the Ata, Talaingod, Langilan, and Matigsalug Manobo. Participants and visitors appeared to have been satisfied with the turn out of the event in terms of performance by the Kalagan cultural performers and activities.
