On Saturday, 12th March, 2016, CG Abdullah attended the Conferment of Datu Bago Awards 2016 at the Royal Mandaya Hotel after attended the Opening Ceremony of the 79th Araw Ng Davao 2016 at San Pedro Street in Davao City.
The Datu Bago Award is in honor of Davao’s hero who struggled against the Spanish colonizers. This award was created in 1969 by then Davao City Mayor Elias B. Lopez to be bestowed on Davaoenos “who have contributed to the development of the City of Davao with exemplary competence and dedication and who best serve as models of excellence and inspiration to the residents of Davao.”
Mindanao Times founder Guillermo Torres St., was one of the first Datu Bago awardees. Through the years, 11 Mindanao Times columnists and writers, including its President Guillermo P. Torres Jr and publisher Jesus Dureza, have received the award.
The Datu Bago Award was conferred at the Royal Mandaya Hotel and attended by city government officials, foreign diplomats, members of the Datu Bago Awards Organization and the families of the current and former awardees. This award is a fitting tribute to the people who help shape the city and whose vision will continue to carry the torch of success and public service in the years to come.
