On Thursday, 14th July, 2016, CG Abdullah joins Al Basar Medical Mission coordination meeting led by Davao City Health Office Dr. Josephine Villafuerte. In attendance were Regional Director Department of Health Dr. Abdullah Dumama, DSWD Officer Ms. Erna Sampiano, Eng.r Samad S. Pangandaman, Mrs. Marilou W Ampuan, Ustaz Eisa Javier and Ustaz Ibrahim of Mercy Islamic Center in Davao City.
Established in 1990 to work in the field of prevention and eradication/controlling of blindness & blinding diseases, Al-Basar International Foundation with an executive office in Saudi Arabia is a non-profitable, non-political, international NGO, registered in many countries. Having its own comprehensive ‘blindness control program’, Al-Basar International is organizing mobile out-reach programs called ‘Al Basar Caravan’ (traditionally known free eye camps) in the needy countries of Africa & Asia having high incidence of eye diseases, some of which can cause blindness, with the facilities of complete schedules of post-operative follow-up. The countries were selected on the basis of empirical studies and statistical information.
On 11 – 18 August 2016, the Foundation is planning to dispatch mobile eye camps (Al-Basar Caravan) for a period of 6 to 7 days in Davao City. During this period about 4000-5000 patients are to be screened, diagnosed and treated, about 400-500 patients will undergo eye operations with highest possible standard & Quality Control Surgeries. Most of the Cataract-surgeries are done with Intra-ocular Lens implantation with small incision & Phaco-emulsification. In the out-patients more than 1000 pairs of reading glasses are also distributed.
Over the last 26 years, the Foundation has achieved the following milestones (till June 2016):
? 45 countries in Asia and Africa ? 1297 free eye camps
? Over 4.513 million patients examined & treated.
? Over 387,739 operations (Mostly Cataract surgeries)
? Over 1.124 million pairs of reading-glasses distributed.
