On 14th September, 2016, CG Abdullah joins the ACT Malaysia’s and Badan Ugama dan Kebajikan MARA to conduct Qurban activities at Barangay Sirawan in Davao City.
A combination of armed conflict, corrupt government and natural disasters has left most of Mindanao Moro population struggling to survive. Problems with peace & security played a substantial role in the increased poverty incidence in some provinces in Mindanao. That coupled with succession of natural disaster mainly in the form of heavy flooding due to typhoons have made living conditions worse for many people especially in Cotabato and Maguindanao area. An estimated 30,000 people in Maguindanao and Cotabato were uprooted from their homes due to flooding.
And. historically Mindanao people or the Moro have been at war with whom they regard as colonials (the Spaniards, Americans and later Filipinos). The land is continuously under armed struggle since the 17th century thus causing instability and backwardness.
Mindanao is a forgotten 'Muslim' land. Conflicts here are not taken as too important by the world Islamic community and as a result humanitarian assistance that are badly needed are not coming except from very few NGOs. Mindanao is an almost forgotten land of the Muslims. The people there need help and assistance. Therefore, ACT Malaysia's activities are mostly focused there and ACT later established ACT Mindanao s ensure its effectiveness there since 2010.
Most of ACT Malaysia's humanitarian programmes are focused in Mindanao, recently hit by a series of disasters, both natural and manmade – floods due to El-Nino, typhoons and mass displacement of civilians due to armed conflict. ACT provides assistance through the annual Ramadan and Qurban activities. In addition, during the height of the displacement, food supply, tents, household items and cash donations were also given to the affected. Education and livelihood programs for orphans and IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons / evacuees) are ongoing, too. Slowly, ACT is expanding its reach to include needy communities in other countries such as Cambodia and Pakistan.
Since its operation in 2008, ACT Malaysia has benefited about 1 million people (IDP’s, Orphans, Widows and the Poor) in Mindanao through the yearly Ramadan and Qurban programs, livelihood project and education sponsorship to orphans.
Since its inception in 2008, ACT Malaysia has earned the support of loyal individual donors in Malaysia who make up the base of our contributors. ACT Malaysia also partnered with other NGO’s, institutions and corporations to achieve their goals and improving programs including:
