CG MET FORMER MILF FIGHTERS IN PIKIT

On 26th January, 2016, Consul General Abdullah met former MILF fighters in Pikit. The purpose of the meeting is to update the attendees on the state of bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Philippines as well as the status of peace process, BBL and to clarify Malaysia’s commitment in the peace process in the Southern Philippines. The meeting was arranged in coordination with the MTCP Alumni member Mr. Nasser Gayagay based in Pikit.

 

During the Q&A session, one of the attendees seeking Malaysia’s support and assistance to overcome drought situation in Pikit due to El Nino effect. CG Abdullah explained that their concern had been raised and discussed earlier with Cotabato City Legal Advisor Atty. Florendo to consider “cloud seeding” method and ground water to provide continuous water access to the farming communities. As a sideline of the meeting, Consul General Abdullah has donated 20 kopiah to the orphanage children and 20 Surah Yassin booklet to all former MILF fighters.

 

The meeting has provide an opportunity to Consul General Abdullah to outreach and listen to the plight of the former MILF fighters. Most of them continue their livelihood without pension and with minimal assistance from the government. They hoped Malaysia could extend assistance for their children education, livelihood training skills and scholarship. The Markadz Tori orphanage homes needs school supplies and books.
