Vice Consul Nurul Ezhar Salehuddin undertook a consular visit to Zamboanga City on 2 to 3 June 2012. While in Zamboanga City, he visited the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Home for Women to meet with a stranded Malaysian who has been in custody with DSWD for illegal entry to hand over the Emergency Certificate for immediate departure to Malaysia. Vice Consul also did a follow-up visit to five (5) other detainees at DSWD who claimed they were Malaysians but without legal documents as a proof. Thereafter, he visited to San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm and met with the convicted Malaysian national, Mr. Tan Ngee Foo. Apart from expressing concerns about Mr. Tan’s welfare and health conditions, Vice Consul handed over some toiletries and food items to him.
In summation, the aim of the visit was to provide consular assistance and at the same time to render compassionate support for the wellbeing of the detained Malaysians in Zamboanga City.
