Consul General Mohammad Azhar Mazlan accompanied by Consul Kamal Norfarid Kamarudin, undertook a working visit to Cotabato City on 12-13 March 2012 to attend the send off and welcoming ceremony of the IMT.
In the evening of 12 March, the Head of Mission (HOM) of the International Monitoring Team (IMT-7), Consul General attended dinner hosted by Dato Abd. Rahim Yusop at Ali Baba Restaurant, Cotabato City. Present were Deputy HOM IMT-6, Laksamana Mohd Adib Abd Samad, IMT-6 Team Site-3 Leader, Col. Abd. Aziz Abdullah, IMT-6 Team Site-4 Leader, Capt. Khalid Jaafar, Malaysia’s Defence Attache in the Philippines, Col. Mohd Zahar Hashim, IMT-7 Civilian Protection Component (CPC) Head Coordinator, Mr. Idris Abu Nawas and two (2) members of IMT-7 advance party.
In the next morning, Consul General together with HOM IMT-7 were on hand to welcome and receive the new members of IMT-7 at Awang Airport, Cotabato City. The party went to the IMT Headquarters for the handing over ceremony of IMT-6 to IMT-7. Thereafter, they witnessed the sending off ceremony of the outgoing IMT-6 members at Awang Airport. The ceremony was also witnessed by Maj.Gen. Ray Ardo, Commanding General of 6th Infantry Battalion, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Said Sheikh, Chairman of MILF Coordinating Committee on Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) and Brig. Gen. Ariel Bernardo, Chairman of Government of the Philippines (GPH) CCCH.
The continued presence of the Malaysia-led IMT and members Brunei, Japan, Libya and European Union (Norway) reflects the steadfast commitment of the Government of Malaysia in facilitating the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in the peace process towards bringing about a sustainable and lasting peace in Mindanao.
