EID-UL ADHA CELEBRATIONS 1432H IN MINDANAO 6 NOVEMBER 2011
At the invitation of the Hon. Mayor Sumulong K. Sultan of Municipality of Pikit, Cotabato, the Consul General Mohammad Azhar Mazlan with the staff and family members of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao City joined the Hon. Mayor and his family members as well as approximately four (4) thousand Muslims in performing the Eid-ul Adha congregational prayers at the Pikit Plaza – an open field town centre, in the early morning of 6 November 2011.
2. Prior to the prayers, the Consul General was given the honour to address the congregation. The Consul General thanked the Hon. Mayor for the invitation to celebrate Eid-ul Adha with the people of Pikit. He reflected on the sacrifice made and obedience to Allah SWT by Prophet Ibrahim a.s. and his son Prophet Ismail a.s. Considering the prevailing situation in Mindanao, the Consul General stated the continued support of the Government of Malaysia toward the peace process in Mindanao. In his response address, the Hon. Mayor welcomed the Consul General to Pikit and thanked the Government and people of Malaysia for their support.
3. After the prayers, the Consul General witnessed the slaughtering of six (6) goats for qurban (sacrifice) and aqiqah by the Consulate General office at Markadz Tori Compound, an orphanage centre. Thereafter the Consul General joined the Hon. Mayor for breakfast at the latter’s residence. The program continued back to the orphanage where the Consul General took the opportunity to have a dialogue session with the orphans comprising 16 boys, 39 girls as well as officials of the orphanage, local government units (LGUs) and civil societies followed by luncheon prepared by the orphanage. Special thanks are extended to Mr. Naser Gayagay of Grass Roots Alleviation Program (GAP-Hunger, Inc.) and Haji Abd. Ghani, University of Southern Mindanao, Kabacan, former participants of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP) for their invaluable assistance in ensuring the smooth-running of the program in Pikit, Cotabato.
