The Consul General launched the Travel and Tour Exhibit in Davao City organized by the Tourism Malaysia Manila led by its Director Ms. Masrina Mohd Bakri. The latter held a 6-day travel and tour exhibit at the Event Centre of SM City in Davao City. In his remarks during the launching ceremony, the Consul General lauded the efforts by Tourism Malaysia to promote Malaysia as a tourist destination especially to the youth market in Mindanao. Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre representing the Mayor of Davao City supported the program as it brought closer people-to-people contact between Mindanao and Davao in particular, with Malaysia.

2.         Amongst others, the activities undertook by Tourism Malaysia was the Campus Road Show where they visited six colleges in Davao City. Each of the colleges has one winner of a free return ticket to Malaysia. Apart from that, the Tourism Malaysia displayed the promotional ads of the different tourist destinations of Malaysia. Several participating travel agencies also sold packages to Malaysia during the fair and were given brochures, flyers, maps and promotional kits to help in promoting their Malaysia packages. At the launching ceremony, guests were entertained with ‘a piece of Malaysian culture and tradition’ where a cultural group from Malaysia performed Malaysia’s Truly Asia dance number as well as a teh tarik demonstration by a famous chef from Malaysia. Those present got the chance to taste the teh tarik.

3.         All in all, the travel and tour exhibit has been very successful in promoting Malaysia as a tourist destination not only to the people of Mindanao (especially amongst the youth) but to the Philippines in general being one of the top ten tourist generating markets for Malaysia.
