MALAYSIA' S CULTURAL NIGHT PRESENTATION AT THE ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL (IGACOS) 17 MAY 2012

At the invitation of the Hon. Aniano P. Antalan of Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) in conjunction with the ‘Visit Samal Island 2012’ campaign, the Consulate General participated in the cultural night presentations at Peñaplata Central Elementary School Grounds on 17 May 2012. The 4-month campaign which begins in April is aimed at increasing tourist arrival both domestic and foreign to the island.

 

2.         The cultural night was well attended by approximately one thousand people. The Hon. Aniano P. Anatalan, Mayor of IGACOS, Mr. Cleto Gales Jr., City Administrator, local government officials of IGACOS, Government Department Heads, members of the media and residents of IGACOS were among those present. The show started with the welcoming address by the Hon. Mayor Aniano Antalan, followed by a speech from the Consul General where he expressed his gratitude to the Honourable Mayor for the invitation to showcase Malaysia’s culture and arts and the opportunity to promote Malaysia as a tourist destination to the people of IGACOS. Consul General assured to extend cooperation to the IGACOS in their future undertakings.

 

3.         The performances among others were group singing of the songs 1Malaysia, Jalur Gemilang, Standing in the Eyes of the World, a solo performance of the song ‘Aku Wanita’, dance performances of ‘Zapin Bahagia’ and ‘Joget Malaysia’. It was intermitted by video presentations entitled Malaysia as a Country, My City Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia Truly Asia depicting the essence of the country’s unique diversity. The star performers of the night were ten (10) Filipino students on their On-the-Job Training at the Consulate General from the University of Southern Mindanao, Kabacan Cotabato, Ateneo de Davao University and Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City.

 

4.         All in all, the cultural night has been successful as a testimony of the goodwill and cooperation the Consulate General has with IGACOS. It received a positive response from the audience and has also made the Consulate General more visible to the people of the Island Garden City of Samal. Kudos to the performers for their stellar performance albeit being novice!
