On October 31, 2024, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) held a Recognition and Medal Award Ceremony to honor foreign air forces, including the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM), that participated in the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission in the Philippines. The mission supported the Philippine government’s response to Typhoon Kristine/Trami. The event, held at the PAF Multi-Purpose Gymnasium in Pasay City, also recognized the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the Royal Brunei Air Force (TUDB).
PAF Commander Lt. Gen. Stephen P. Parreño and Deputy Commander Maj. Gen. Augustine S. Malinit attended, along with other distinguished guests and representatives from each participating air force. The ceremony began with a welcome speech, followed by the award presentation and a cultural performance by the Sindaw Philippines Performing Art Guild, showcasing Filipino traditional arts. Lt. Gen. Parreño expressed gratitude for the unwavering commitment of the foreign air forces, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in maintaining regional peace.
The event concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and group photos, symbolizing lasting friendship and cooperation between the Philippine Air Force and its Southeast Asian counterparts.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) deployed 16 officers and personnel, along with an EC 725 AP helicopter from No. 5 Squadron, to the Philippines on October 26 to provide assistance and support to the Philippine Government in their efforts to help those affected by severe flooding and landslides caused by Tropical Storm Kristine.
TUDM successfully carried out 9 flight sorties during the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission from October 27 to November 1. The flights transported a total of 38,537 lbs of aid supplies, including boats with engines (1,812 lbs), tarpaulin canvases (18,125 lbs), and food supplies in boxes (18,600 lbs). The success of this mission not only benefited the Filipino people affected by the disaster but also strengthened the regional ties between Malaysia and the Philippines in their joint efforts to address the impacts of natural disasters. The success of this mission also highlights TUDM's commitment to executing HADR operations.
