TRAVEL REMINDER
The Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao City would like to advise Malaysians who intend to travel to Mindanao Island and other parts of Southern Philippines that they are strongly encouraged to inform the Consulate General prior to their planned journey to the Philippines.
For information, recently there has been a number of Malaysians who have visited Mindanao/Southern Philippines in search of a lizard called Gecko gecko – locally known as Tokai Gecko. The lizard is highly priced and in demand at the international market as it can allegedly cure ailments, among others, cancer and asthma. As stipulated by the laws in the Philippines, selling and buying of geckos in the Philippines is illegal and a violation of the Philippine Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001. Those involved in such activity are punishable by fine and imprisonment.
For Malaysians travelling to Mindanao Island and Southern Philippines, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao City can be reached through the following telephone numbers (082) 221-4050 and (082) 222-1368 or e-mail at maldavao@kln.gov.my.
