Working Visit of Major General Dato’ Mahdi Bin Yusof, Head of Mission of IMT-6 to Davao City, 2 to 4 May 2011
Major General Dato’ Mahdi Yusof of the Armed Forces of Malaysia, Head of Mission of International Monitoring Team (IMT-6) based in Cotabato City undertook a working visit to Davao City from 2 to 4 May. He was accompanied by IMT officials namely Colonel Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, Team Site Leader 4 of General Santos City, Capt. (Dr.) Mohd Haslin, Mr. Sazali Mustafa Kamal, Mr. Oddver Mitkandal, Mej Ahmad Murad bin Jalaini and Ms. Cynthia Petrigh.
2. On May 3rd, the Major General paid courtesy call on the Consul General at the latter’s office. On May 4th , the Consul General together with the Major General paid a courtesy call on the new Eastern Mindanao Commander Lt. Gen. Arthur I. Tabaquero of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at Naval Camp in Panacan, Davao City. During the call, both sides expressed willingness to collaborate in conducting community outreach programs in Mindanao. They shared similar optimistic views on the peace process for Mindanao. The Consul General and the Major General then paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Regional Police Director of Davao region, Police Chief Supt. Jaime H. Morente, CEO VI at Camp Catitipan. During the call, both sides discussed security issues of mutual concern in Southern part of Mindanao, particularly in Davao region. In the evening, the Consul General hosted a dinner in honour of the Major General and his delegation.
3. The visit by Major General Dato’ Mahdi Yusof, Head of Mission of IMT-6 has enabled the IMT to establish a good rapport and networking with the uniformed- service personalities in Davao region. It bodes well towards achieving a lasting peaceful settlement to the people of Mindanao.
