The Embassy of Malaysia hosted the 55th National Day Reception on 7 November 2012. The reception was held much later than the real date of Malaysia's National Day on 31 August in order to coincide with the departure of the Malaysian Royal Police serving in Timor Leste under the ambit of the United Nations the next morning. Altogether, the event was graced by 500 guests approximately, comprising of senior government officials, the diplomatic corps, UN officials, representatives from civil society and think-tanks, Malaysian UNPOL and MALFPU as well as other Malaysians and friends of the embassy. Y.Bhg. Dato' Sri Salleh Mat Rasid, Director of Internal Security and Public Order of the Royal Malaysian Police who was in Dili for official duty was also present at the reception. H.E. Roberto Soares, Secretary of State for ASEAN Matters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor Leste gave a response speech to the welcoming speech by the Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Malaysia, as the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were in Bali for the 5th Democracy Forum while the President was in the district of Same for official purposes.
