The Timorese President, H.E. Taur Matan Ruak and First-Lady Dr. Isabel Ferreira invited all Heads of Mission in Dili to demonstrate his cooking skills in the preparation of local cuisine. The demonstration took place on 14 March 2013 at Palacio Nobré in Lahane. The event also showcased a cooking demonstration of American cuisine by Mr. Gregory Fergin, spouse of the American Ambassador to Timor Leste. It was attended by all Heads of Mission and respective spouses.
The Timorese diet features extensive use of fresh locally grown produce like beans, gourds, tubers, cereals and leafy green vegetables. The event served as an eye opener for most foreigners as little was known about the Timorese cuisine.
