PRESS RELEASE - EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP BY VOLUNTEER MALAYSIAN TEACHERS

Dili, 19 April 2024 – As part of its public diplomacy program, the Embassy of Malaysia collaborated with a group of volunteer Malaysian teachers to successfully conduct a comprehensive educational workshop from 16-19 April 2024 at Timorese secondary public school, Ensino Secundaria Geral 12 De Novembro, Becora, Dili (ESG 12 Novembro). A total of 45 selected students in grades 10th and 11th benefited from the workshop.

Areas covered during the 4-days event include positive thinking & overcoming mental blocks skills, motivation & leadership skills development, enhancing the power of focus & concentration, and developing scientific skills through fun experiments; aside from artwork sessions for stress relief, improving vocabulary & grammar, and supporting local talent through dance and drama.

On the last day, students were treated to a lunch of Malaysian culinary delights prepared by the Embassy’s Ladies Association (PERWAKILAN), and at the closing ceremony, Embassy officials took students on a cultural journey through Malaysia with Dikir Barat and Teh Tarik performances. The Sepak Takraw Association of Timor-Leste (Federação Sepaktakraw de Timor-Leste) concluded the ceremony with a Sepak Takraw demonstration.

Malaysian Ambassador Amarjit Sarjit Singh, officially closed the Workshop, after conveying appreciation to the Malaysian volunteer teachers, the school’s principal, teachers, and students; and Director of Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education of Timor-Leste. He also stated that the Embassy will continue to welcome and support Malaysian volunteers in Timor-Leste.
