DILI - The Malaysian Embassy hosted a farewell reception on 3rd April 2009 for the outgoing Malaysian Police. The group, which serves under the UN, completed their tour of duty in Timor Leste and is scheduled to leave for Malaysia on 7th April 2009. A new contingent from the Central Brigade will arrive in Dili on the same day. The reception was attended by the President of Timor Leste, H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos Horta, the Special Representative of the Secretary General, Atul Khare and several high ranking UN officials. During his speech, President Ramos Horta praises Malaysia for its swift response in sending the Police contingent during the riot in 2006. The President also commended the Malaysian Police excellent record in Timor Leste. The President also awards the members of the Malaysian Police contingent with the Timor Leste Solidarity Medal as an appreciation for their services in Timor Leste.
