MALAYSIA’S 68TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE AND 62ND MALAYSIA DAY
DILI, 3 September 2025 – Timor-Leste’s President H.E. Dr. José Ramos-Horta graced a Reception in conjunction with Malaysia’s 68th Anniversary of Independence and 62nd Malaysia Day at the Dili Convention Centre (CCD).
Hosted by Malaysian Ambassador H.E. Dato’ Amarjit Sarjit Singh and spouse Datin Param Git Kaur Pauja Singh, the event was attended by several members of the 9th Constitutional Government, ASEAN and other heads of diplomatic Missions resident in Dili, senior Government officials, representatives of UN Agencies and international organisations, the academia, private sector, the Malaysian diaspora, and Friends of Malaysia which include alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP), and alumni of Malaysian universities.
Also in attendance was President of the Court of Appeal Hon. Afonso Carmona; Vice Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for Social Affairs, and Minister of Rural Development and Community Housing H.E. Mariano Assanami Sabino; Minister of Interior H.E. Francisco Guterres; Minister for Social Solidarity and Inclusion H.E. Verónica das Dores; Minister of Justice H.E. Sergio Hornai; Vice Minister for ASEAN Affairs H.E. Milena Rangel; Vice Minister for Parliamentary Affairs H.E. Adérito da Costa Hugo; Vice Minister for Social Solidarity and Inclusion H.E. Ceu Brites; Chief of the CNRT Bench in Parliament Hon. Duarte Nunes; Commander General of Police (PNTL) Henrique da Costa, and Colonel Marcelino Ximenes ‘Rizai’, representing the Chief of Defence Forces.
Following Remarks by the host and Chief Guest, guests were treated to a wide variety of Malaysian culinary delights. Malaysia’s National Day which is commonly referred to as Merdeka Day falls on 31 August, while Malaysia Day falls on 16 September, and both are celebrated as national events. This year’s theme is a Civil Malaysia: The People Are Cared for (Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni).
