9 Aug 2021 – Five resident ASEAN Missions in Timor-Leste namely Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand jointly hosted the flag hoisting ceremony in Commemoration of the 54th Anniversary of the Founding of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the ground of the Indonesian Embassy in Timor-Leste. H.E. Adaljiza Magno, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Cooperation of Timor-Leste graced the ceremony as the Guest of Honour and the event was attended by the representatives of ASEAN Partners.
Since its founding in 1967, ASEAN has grown into a vibrant and increasingly integrated economic region, stronger socio-cultural community, and plays a significant role in the regional political-security front.
