INTERVENTION BY
H.E. SYED MOHAMAD HASRIN AIDID
PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALAYSIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS
AT THE 401st MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE ON THE EXERCISE OF THE INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE (CEIRPP)
14 JULY 2020
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr. Chair,
Thank you for convening this meeting. We take note of the recent and upcoming activities spearheaded by the Committee and will continue to support any efforts towards the important cause of the Palestinians.
2. I also wish to take this opportunity to thank the Committee and its Secretariat for the great collaboration and support extended to my Government in hosting the International Conference on the Question of Palestine in Kuala Lumpur, which was held from 28 to 29 February 2020.
3. The Conference under the theme “Southeast Asian Support for the Rights of the Palestinian People” had successfully brought together Palestinian and international experts as well as civil society actors in Southeast Asia as a contribution towards the mobilization of efforts in support of the realization of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
4. Malaysia also successfully hosted the 3rd Conference of The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds from 8-9 Feb 2020, with the theme “Towards an Effective Strategy to End the Occupation.”
Mr. Chair,
5. With regard to the Israeli threat of annexation, Malaysia will continue to strongly condemn and reject the illegal and unilateral action by Israel. My Government has also issued a Press Release on 22 May 2020, expressing our grave concern on the subject.
6. Malaysia will also continue to provide assistance to the Government and the people of Palestine, both in cash and in-kind, particularly for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Palestinian societies. To assist Palestinians in their efforts to prepare and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, Malaysia contributed 1 million face masks, 500 face shields, and 500,000 rubber hand gloves to the Palestinian Government. We have also pledged a financial contribution to UNRWA last month in support of the Agency’s work and operations.
7. In closing, allow me to reaffirm Malaysia’s support to the Palestinian people in their quest for fundamental rights, particularly their inalienable right to self-determination and their rights for a dignified life, justice, and prosperity.
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
