Malaysians in Caracas, including PETRONAS officials and local staff from the Embassy of Malaysia were treated to a special Diwali  lunch hosted by Ambassador Mahinder and Madam Jagdeep at the official residence on 26 October 2011. Many North Indian dishes like chicken yoghurt curry, green peas and potato curry, egg sambal, chapatis, purees, briyani rice and papadam were served not forgetting the traditional savories like muruku and achimurku. A special North Indian desert called Kheer or rice pudding was also served.

On Diwali day, homes are decorated, sweets are distributed and lamps are lighted.  The ancient story of Diwali is the day when King Rama’s coronation was celebrated after his epic war with Ravana, the demon king. On this day, rows of lamps were lighted up to welcome home the divine king Rama and his queen Sita after 14 years in exile.
