Caracas, 17 June 2025 – The Embassy of Malaysia in Caracas conducted a knowledge-sharing session with students from the Faculty of Political Science at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV). The session was attended by the Dean, Professor Luis Angarita, and Programme Coordinator, Dr. Marisabel Díaz, who welcomed the Embassy’s engagement with the academic community and expressed appreciation for its continued outreach.
The session focused on Malaysia’s foreign policy and its upcoming Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025. The Chargé d’Affaires explained that Malaysia’s foreign policy is grounded in six core principles, including respect for international law, non-interference, neutrality, and peaceful coexistence. He also highlighted ASEAN’s role as a key pillar of Malaysia’s foreign policy, providing an overview of its foundational values, institutional structure, and the importance of regional cooperation through its three community pillars.
The CDA also outlined Malaysia’s Chairmanship priorities, such as strengthening ASEAN unity, boosting economic integration, and promoting sustainable development. He also highlighted expected deliverables, including the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and cross-sector initiatives in digitalisation and climate diplomacy. The session ended with positive engagement from students, reflecting increasing interest in Malaysia’s role in regional and global affairs.
