On 14 June 2012, Ambassador Mahinder met His Excellency Mr David Velazquez, the new Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia, Middle East and Oceania.
H.E. Velazquez was keen on furthering bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, economic, culture and oil plantations with Malaysia. He planned to make a working visit to Malaysia in the near future. Ambassador Mahinder highlighted the ongoing Joint-Venture on oil exploration at the Carabobo field and the need to explore viable areas of cooperation between the two countries.
Vice-Minister Velasquez confirmed that apart from the ongoing JV with Petronas in oil exploration, both countries could focus on the oil palm sector, trade and tourism.
