Caracas, 26 March 2025 The Chargé d’Affaires paid a courtesy visit to the José Ángel Lamas Higher Institute of Music and met with its Rector, Mrs. Silvia Holguín. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for collaboration in the areas of education and cultural exchange between Malaysia and Venezuela, particularly through the medium of music and the performing arts. This engagement forms part of the Embassy’s broader initiative to promote Malaysia’s cultural diplomacy and deepen people-to-people connections.

Founded in 1885, the José Ángel Lamas Higher Institute of Music is one of Venezuela’s most esteemed and historic institutions dedicated to music education. Named after the renowned Colonial Baroque composer José Ángel Lamas, the institute has significantly contributed to preserving Venezuela’s musical traditions and cultivating generations of local musicians.

The institute provides a comprehensive curriculum that includes instrumental training, advanced programmes for conductors and composers, and short-term certification courses tailored for musicians to enhance and validate their skills. Its well-established academic and artistic credentials position it as a valuable partner for international cultural collaborations.

The Embassy and José Ángel Lamas Higher Institute of Music agreed to continue discussions to define the next steps, including the possibility of co-organising a concert to introduce Malaysian music to Venezuelan audiences through the works of P. Ramlee.
