RENUNCIATION OF MALAYSIAN CITIZENSHIP

Article 23 of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia states:

“(1) Any citizen of or over the age of twenty-one years and of sound mind who is also or is about to become a citizen of another country may renounce his citizenship of the Federation by declaration registered by the Federal Government, and shall thereupon cease to be a citizen.”

“(2) A declaration made under this Article during any war in which the Federation is engaged shall not be registered except with the approval of the Federal Government.”

“(3) This Article applies to a woman under the age of twenty-one years who has been married as it applies to a person of or over that age.”

Application Requirements:

1. Applicant is a Malaysian citizen and of sound mind.

2. Applicant must be twenty-one years old or above except for a woman who has been married.

3. Applicant has acquired or about to become a citizen of United Arab Emirates (UAE).

4. Applications must be made at the Embassy in person.

5. Applications are to be made using Form K in duplicate and submitted along with the original and two (2) photocopies of each of the required documents.

6. Form K of the applicants who are about to become a UAE citizen will be processed by the Embassy after the applicants have submitted a proof that they have obtained a UAE citizenship while Form K of those who have acquired UAE citizenship will be processed by the Embassy immediately.

7. All applications for renunciation of Malaysian citizenship that have been processed by the Embassy will be sent to the Headquarters of the National Registration Department of Malaysia in Putrajaya to be registered.

Required Documents:

For applicants who are about to acquire UAE citizenship:

1. Form K (can be obtained at the Embassy);
2. Two (2) recent identical coloured passport-sized photographs (in the size of 3.5 cm x 5 cm with plain light blue background);
3. Malaysian Passport;
4. Malaysian identity card;
5. Malaysian Certificate of Citizenship, if any;
6. Birth certificate / Form W / Form H; and
7. Marriage certificate (if the applicant is a woman below 21 years old).

For applicants who have acquired citizenship:

1. Form K (can be obtained at the Embassy)
2. Two (2) recent identical coloured passport-sized photographs (in the size of 3.5cm x 5 cm with plain light blue background);
3. Malaysian Passport;
4. Malaysian identity card;
5. Malaysian Certificate of Citizenship, if any;
6. Birth certificate / Form W / Form H;
7. Marriage certificate (if the applicant is a woman below 21 years old); and
8. Proof that applicant has acquired Japanese citizenship.

Fee: AED25.00 (cash only)

Processing Time: Six (6) months

Note:

Kindly bring along all the original documents and to provide two (2) photocopies of each document in A4 size.
