2015 ASEAN Friendly Badminton Tournament held in Guangzhou on 5 September 2015
A Malaysian contingent participated in the 2015 ASEAN Friendly Badminton Tournament in Guangzhou on 5 September 2015, organized by the Singapore Consulate General. The event was one of the few annual sporting events organized by ASEAN Consulates General in Guangzhou for ASEAN community in Guangdong. The event was jointly supported by the Consulate General from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Present at the event were Consuls General from Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. There were 3 main categories being contested namely the men's doubles, women’s doubles and mixed double. The Malaysian team which comprised of Malaysian expatriates and students residing in Guangdong took part in the tournament.
The main purpose of the event was to promote a healthy lifestyle and foster closer ties between the ASEAN communities residing in Guangdong. The Malaysian players which were well represented at the event had a clean sweep by emerging champions in all 3 categories.
The prizes which includes medals and gifts were handed over to the winners by Mr. Loh Tuck Wai (CG of Singapore), Mr. Muzambli Markam (CG of Malaysia) and Mrs. Ratu Silvy Gayatri.
